2016 OLYMPICS IN RIO DE JANEIRO
cities are canditade

The concern for environmental protection is one of the cornerstones of the candidacy of Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Rio 2016 Committee has in fact developed a reforestation plan to offset carbon emissions from activities related to the candidacy of the city, which provides for the planting of 2,386 trees in the National Park of Pedra Branca, Maria Lenk Aquatic Park and Deodoro Sports Complex. In total, the Committee plans to neutralize 716 tonnes of carbon dioxide emitted from September 2007 to October 2009. To calculate the emissions were considered domestic and international flights for about 5.3 million km, related to events of presentation and promotion of the campaign (by Beijing 2008 the official visits of the Committees Olympic) and all expenses relating to the activities of the office of the Committee Rio 2016 (energy, various materials, etc.). "The Games Rio 2016 will function as a catalyst for legislation and environmental programs of the three levels of government. All actions are aligned with the strategic plan of the city for the protection of nature. Giving life to the initiatives already planned in the period of application is undoubtedly the best way to start, "said Carlos Arthur Nuzman, President of the Rio 2016. The impact that zero is not a new idea for the candidacy of Rio 2016: The bid delivered to the International Olympic Committee already provided the proposal of the "Green Games", by planting three million trees in strategic areas of the Forest of Tijuca. The initiative will bequeath a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) in the adjacent communities, building on regeneration projects of the National Park of Pedra Branca, Tijuca Forest, the areas adjacent to sports facilities and mangroves along the lagoon bar
