2010 years of "diversity of life" (and therefore of life itself)
Biodiversity on Earth is in serious danger: it takes 1 to 4 million years because a species can evolve into two different species, while a species will become extinct in 10,000 years (but with a decreasing trend) and the current conditions, the rate of extinction is 1000 times greater than what was there before the appearance of man on earth.
Especially in the last 100 years, the loss Biodiversity has been a progressive and dramatic increase and, at this rate, it will be extinct by 2100 from 50 to 80% of species present.
If decreases life planet proportionately one year solar date pop man "would fall" December 31 in recent minutes o'clock 23 (period from Dante today equals approximately fourth seconds of this entire year).
Yet, man is able to do so much damage to life on the planet like no other event of the first, with a dramatic acceleration in the beginning of the industrial age: excessive population growth, deforestation, intensive agriculture and fishing, especially alien, climate change, introduction into synthetic chemicals, chemical and other pollutants ...
We have a huge responsibility and therefore the inescapable duty to put a stop to the extinction of species.
From 1975 onwards, international conventions and European directives have begun to focus attention on this issue by requiring the first measures of protection: establishment of protected areas, protection of ecological corridors, planning tools, awareness campaigns, ...
The United Nations Convention on bioidversità and 1992 (Rio de Janeiro).
In 2001, the European Union was committed to halting biodiversity decline by 2010, but only in 2006 adopted an action plan to that effect, and still awareness of the problem from citizens is completely inadequate. The ignorance or indifference to this problem, still predominate.
So declared 2010 the year of biodiversity, the UN sought to lay firmly the attention of nations and men on the need to protect bio-diversity to ensure life on earth: our food supplies and thus our own lives are threatened by loss of biodiversity that we ourselves are causing .
Now we need to make a choice: to consider the biodiversity and habitat as common goods, and not as a resource to be exploited economically, capital to be tapped. The spirit of
survival as a species, and responsibility between generations, once they become aware of the dramatic situation we find ourselves, should lead us to ACT to assist the conservation of biological diversity by reconciling the economy with the protection and preservation of essential ' environment.
In Italy we would have the immediate need of a comprehensive law on biodiversity but, unfortunately, this government does not seem at all interested in this need, and indeed is working nth building amnesty, that this time, the intent of some of the senators PDL, which proposed an amendment to the Constitutional Affairs Committee that is considering the next "milleproroghe" not spare even the protected areas (including the amnesty also the damage to environmental assets and landscape), and is preparing to vote on a rule that would expand the hunting season already over five months under the infinite current law, among other changes also completely inconsistent with the European directives on the subject, including the ability to accciare protected species (wolves, bears, ...).
And, incredibly, one of the senators who proposed the amendment is called the Bears, perhaps even laughing ago (he has also made a joke Littizzetto), but instead, I feel like crying!
